So, MWC 2018 happened recently and for most of us, it was majorly a Samsung show. This South Korean company launched its long-lined flagship smartphones: the Galaxy S9 and S9+. And without further ado let’s dive into the spec sheet.
Galaxy S9 | S9+ DESIGN
S9 and S9+ are not much different from previous year’s S8 and S8+ in design terms. The S9 and s9+ have a 5.8” and 6.2”high-resolution AMOLED infinity display for crisp and vibrant colors. They are without a doubt, the best android displays in the market. The phones have a slightly curved body for the better hold with a glass panel (same as previous models).
But, this year we see 2 design changes; the placement of fingerprint sensor is now below the camera which was a major drawback in the s8 and now we’ve got stereo speakers instead of a single speaker as in s8 and s8+. So, kudos there Samsung!
HARDWARE AND FEATURES
Both are powered by the latest and blazing fast chipsets. You will get Snapdragon 835 Octa-core processor clocked at 2.7 GHz or Samsung’s own Exynos 9810 chip depending on your region (you won’t find much difference though). On top of that, s9/s9+ will run Android 8.0 Oreo with Samsung UX v9.
S9 plus sports a 3500 mah battery while S9 has 3000 mah superfast wired/wireless charging battery. In terms of memory, we have 4 GB of Ram with 65GB/128GB/256GB of expandable storage.
We are going to talk about the camera in a different section because Samsung has focused a lot on improving the camera this year.
Apart from these, you are going to get a 3.5mm headphone jack (good old days), USB type-C, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, face recognition, a dedicated button under volume rockers for Samsung’s own assistant Bixby etc.
Samsung’s tagline for this year models is The Camera. Reimagined. And indeed, it is. Samsung has achieved a feat in s9 models that very few smartphones have. The aperture of the rear camera lens in these phones is PHYSICALLY VARIABLE. It means you can literally shift in between two aperture modes, the larger and bright f/1.4 and the smaller f/2.4 like bigger Cameras.
So now you can have really cool pictures in bright daylight or after dark. The rear camera incorporates a 12-megapixel image sensor which is capable of recording up to impressive 4k videos at 60fps. Also, it can record super slow-mo 720p video clips at 960fps. The front camera is 8 megapixels with f/1.4 aperture and is capable of recording 1440p videos at 30 fps. Pretty sweet!
THE BEST ANDROID SMARTPHONE?
Right now, yes, s9/s9+ are the best Android smartphones available in the market which can provide high value for money.S9 is priced at around Rs.57,900 and S9+ is at around Rs.64,900.
But, we are going to have Google Pixel’s launch later this year, so, till then, Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ rules the Android smartphone market.
